pleasant surprises - and just plain surprises - in East Nashville

Today, I:

-visited the "Family Farmers Co-op" produce stand down from our house in East Nashville. This is the pleasant surprise. They didn't have any pumpkins, which I was looking for, but they did have some pretty good green tomatoes and apples, will have more pumpkins and some eggplants this week (especially for me - b/c our neighbors don't usually buy eggplant), and I had a good conversation with the man working there (and his wife a little bit - who must not be a nun, since she's married, but had a habit-looking thing on - I don't know what church they must be a part of).

-saw a man on a horse trotting around on our street. I don't know how much more bizarre it can get than that. No carriage, just a man on a horse. Completely bizarre.

-ok, and these aren't East Nashville things necessarily, but I spent some time on the phone sitting in a couple parks in our neighborhood with folks, and it was just lovely.

-And I went to breakfast with some fabulous young, Methodist, progressive folks at Bongo Java by Belmont Univ. Yay for meeting great people - and especially when it's people that know people that you know - and when it's surprisingly people that you already know.

-and I'm eating food that's pretty fresh and that I semi-cooked right now, after going a couple weeks without cooking much of anything. It feels good. This definitely needs to become and stay habit for me - I think I'll about go crazy without it. Busy church (and otherwise) schedule, or not - it's got to happen on a regular basis. Eating out has beeng good for some relationship-building, but prob. not super for my health nor for my pocketbook, and occasionally prob. not so great for the earth.

-oh, and I'm in the house with both of my housemates. These moments are fairly few, but they're nice, even if we're all just sitting doing our own things.

I'm going to try and use this means of online communication more again. This way other people know what's going on that want to know what's going on in my life, and so the sojo interns google group doesn't become my personal journal.

I hope all is well in everyone's worlds!
Love, Jess
