empanadas at midnight
I don't remember what we'd all been doing Wednesday evening, but I think Margarita, Gaby, and I had all been in different places for once or something, and later on we were up in Gaby's room talking about this, that, and the other - I was explaining some of the St. Patrick's Day traditions, etc., since that was coming up the next day. Then, we went our different ways, Gaby studying, I got ready for bed and was in bed, when Margarita (I think that's what I'm calling her now - "la mamá" when I refer to her to Gaby, "my mom" to other gringos, but Margarita to her face, I think) called us to come downstairs, because she'd just fixed empanadas. Isn't that great? Before going to bed, I was kind of feeling hungry because I either ate somewhere else, or ate early, or didn't eat much for "once", but I didn't want to get anything at 11:30/12 before going to bed. But, never fear, spontaneous Margarita is here. Our first "cena"/dinner since I've been here - something compelled her to fix cheese empanadas - mmm, they were good. I went ahead and decided to have some wine with mine along with Margarita, since I still hadn't legitimately tried any Chilean wine - so I suppose I slept even harder than usual. I have to say, I'm just not that big a fan of alcohol in general - I have to have sweet stuff - maybe wine and Coke together, like Gaby usually has at the grandparents' house. Anyway, it was a nice surprise, and super-yummy. I love food - it's magic.
