the fallen tree, snapped at the root, blocking the entire width of the street, but just missing the neighbor's fence.
these men were really sweet. one noted that "the lord was watching over us," since the tree fell into the street, not into our house. i'm pretty positive i would not be here now if the wind had decided to blow the opposite direction.
and now what? i think it might be time to plant a new tree in memory of this black walnut? or butternut? that fell in the storm and left a gaping hole in the ground. we'll all be moving in the next few months, yes, but surely we can find a way to plant and tend a tree on this plot where i've been living for 2 years and the others for a year. oh, for new life - continued resurrections - in this easter season.
