Yesterday, I had some free time, and instead of doing anything productive, I listlessly walked the streets in the area. Ok, I can't say it was completely unproductive - I did read a couple of pages of a Chilean book and made some Spanish flashcards (I really have to do something about falling asleep when reading - I can't go on like this), journaled about why I was melancholy, and most importantly - bought some new yarn and knitting needles! I'll have to take a picture for y'all, because I really like the yarn. Some of the ladies on the work team from Virginia are knitters, and went down the yarn store quite a few times, but I never joined them for one reason or another. There are many stores around, I think - mostly called Lanabel. I don't know if there's anything incredibly special about the yarn here, but I'm excited about knitting. I actually went to start a scarf today and remembered at first what I was doing - got the slip knot on there, but then couldn't remember how to cast-on, then I couldn't even remember how to do the knot - so I found a good website that has some diagrams. Anyway - I have a couple of rows now. Most of the yarn here is kind of thin, so we'll see how it goes. I like the color I got, though - it's turquoise, with some brown and white in it, and it's got a fun texture to it.
Ok - anyway the whole point of my relating my stroll around the plaza (Plaza Nunoa) was to tell you that there was a big ad-thing on one of the buildings that said "I (heart) Nunork", which I thought was quite funny. It would be funnier with tildes, because it would read sound more like "Nyunyork", for you non-Spanish-speakers. Maybe I'll go back down some time and take a picture. That and the yarn! Tomorrow I hope to get out soon after Georgie arrives, so I can go to Bellavista and see one of Pablo Neruda's houses - he's got one in Santiago, one in Valparaiso, and one in Isla Negra, and they're all turned into museum-type places, with all of the interesting stuff he collected over his lifetime. And I may go up Cerro San Cristobal while I'm over there as well. I feel so much better when I go out and do stuff - note to self.
