This was around sunset - from the back patio, with the sun shining on the house behind us. - it didn't look so cloudy at that point - more like smog - but it definitely rained last night! It hadn't rained here since September, and it usually doesn't ever rain during the summer - they were calling it a day of winter/fall. I was glad to go out and touch some Chilean rain, and after I stuck my tongue out remembered that there's smog every day, and it's probably acid rain or something - not so appetizing. Nonetheless, I love the smell of rain, at least when it hasn't rained in awhile - the smell of the dirt settling - fantastic. I smell it occasionally when people water their plants, but I adore the rain, so I was quite happy. The Santiago-ans seemed more annoyed than happy - maybe something about needing to walk in the rain, and not relying on the rain for a harvest and such.
