Carabineros

Not only have I had the opportunity to give international students experiences with the police, but I've gotten to have an experience with the police here as well! Someone broke into Shana's car and stole the radio, maybe something else, and 2 big boxes full of books and personal momento-type things of a friend of Shana's who's a (UM, I think) missionary in the south of Chile, from Scotland. I wasn't quite brave enough to get a picture, although they were pretty friendly and probably would have played along. They have uniforms in various shades of green and wear hats. There was a lady who came in and sat at the table to write up the report, and 2 other men who mainly stood outside, but would occasionally come in. One of them went and found Patan, when he ran out of the gate. Alain, after giving them some questioning looks, went and got his Policia de Investigaciones cap to wear for the day - very cute.

Anyway - quite a bit of excitement this morning. Fun stuff. Not fun for Shana and Thomasina in terms of losing valuable things (although they are both quite calm, etc.), but I (in my own twisted way) have kind of enjoyed having an experience with police in another country. I can mark that one off the list. Hopefully I don't have to have any more experiences with such officials, lest it be caused by a higher level of law-breaking.
